Assembly - 2

Now that you have completed the two halves of the chair, it is time to create the sling seat for the chair.  This seat is made from a thin material patterned or not material.  The width of the material is approximately 1 + 25/48" wide and 4 + 3/4" long. The side edges are folded over approximately 1/12", and the ends are wrapped around the 1 - 25/48" dowel.  You can either glue these edges or sew them if you prefer.

The corners on the seat material are clipped and folded under to create a stronger edge where the dowel connects to the seat sides.  The end flaps are glued in such a way that the dowel can slide through a hole that is not glued.  The side flaps are glued solidly.  Use the 1/12" dowel as a guide.

Test fit all the dowels in the seat side assembly -- they will probably need a little adjustment, but this can be easily accomplished by holding between your fingers a very fine sand paper and rolling the dowel back and forth.  Important Note!  the 1/12" dowels need to fit tightly, so sand very carefully.  Once fitted -- glue all the 1/12" dowels into place on one side assembly -- allow to dry completely.  Important Note!  When gluing the dowels in place, be very sparing on the glue - you only want to glue on the inside of the hole -- wipe off any excess immediately.

Slide the sling seat assembly over the 1+25/48" dowel and begin attaching the other side assembly in place.  File or sand off any excess length of the dowel -- touch up with stain or paint.
