Seat Assembly

|
| The seat is the next to
last item to be added to the chair. Care must be taken to insure
that the notches are not too large as they provide support for
the chair. Test fit and trim the seat as needed then glue in place. |

A lot of different materials can be used to
create the seat cover. Needlepoint, leather, cloth, just about
any material is fine. It is important to remember that a very
thin material should be used – scale thickness is about 1/96”
thick. To much thicker and it will not look to scale.
When making the seat cover, you will need to make the cutout
larger than the pattern to the left – the dotted lines are a
rough indication of just how much bigger to make this cover. You
can stuff the seat with cotton, foam rubber, polyester batting –
or any other soft material. In the original the excess material
is folded under to provide extra strength.
The original seat was held in place by upholstery tacks – These
tacks measure about 1/48” in diameter, and can be made from many
different materials, including polymer clays like Sculpey®. |
